NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said today that the alliance must completely review its long-term relationship with Russia, during the meeting of NATO defense ministers (today - note ed.), reported the National News Agency of the Netherlands ANP.
„When I attended my first NATO summit in Portugal, Russian President (Dmitry) Medvedev was there for a NATO-Russia meeting,” Rutte recalled of the 2010 NATO summit. to be repeated in the near or distant future, I am sure. This brings us to the question of how to deal with this particular relationship with Russia in the long term,” he said.
The security issue will be discussed at the NATO meeting today, Rutte said. According to him, in the short term the solution is clear, namely - to ensure that Russia does not make progress in Ukraine, but in the long term there are still many questions.
Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Breckelmans said upon his arrival that NATO must strengthen its defenses because the Russian threat is only growing, not only in the short term but also in the long term.
