Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a significant increasing supplies of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported last night, quoted by DPA and BTA.
The Israeli public television “Can“ announced that in the future 250 trucks a day will bring humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave, where the war has been raging for more than a year.
Netanyahu's decision is a reaction to US threats to stop arms supplies to Israel if the situation with the peaceful Palestinian population in Gaza does not improve.
According to the Israeli agency responsible for Palestinian affairs, 50 trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza on Wednesday and an additional 30 entered yesterday.
The situation in the northern part of the enclave is considered extremely critical. According to the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF, almost one in five children in the area suffers from life-threatening malnutrition. According to the UN, around 500 trucks a day were delivering aid and goods to the Gaza Strip before the war began last October.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said this evening that they had also killed the bodyguard of the dead leader of the Palestinian movement “Hamas” Yahia Sinuar, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
The IDF said Mahmoud Hamdan was killed during a clash with Israeli military in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah. His death occurred yesterday just 200 meters from where the IDF liquidated Sinwar on Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces said.
Hamdan was the commander of a battalion of “Hamas” in the quarter “Tal al Sultan“ in Rafah and served as Sinuar's bodyguard. He was also guarding the six Israeli hostages who were killed by his men in August, the IDF added. The Israel Defense Forces found their bodies in a tunnel under Rafah, where they also found traces of Sinuar's DNA.
The movement “Hamas“ has not yet confirmed Hamdan's demise.
The US presidential candidate from the Republican Party Donald Trump said today that the death of the leader of the Palestinian movement “Hamas“ Yahya Sinuar will facilitate the possibilities for peace in Gaza, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
„I think it will make things easier,” Trump said, commenting on the possibilities for peace in Gaza after Sinwar's death. He stated this to reporters arriving at a pre-election event in the city of Detroit.
The former US president added that he plans to speak soon with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He praised the Israeli leader for doing a good job while criticizing the administration of current US President Joe Biden.
„Biden is trying to contain him (Netanyahu – ed.), and he should probably do just the opposite,”, Trump said.
Biden and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, who Trump faces in a tight race ahead of the November 5 US election, maintain strong support for Israel in its wars in Gaza and Lebanon. However, earlier this week, Washington sent a letter to Israel demanding that it improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza or face potential restrictions on US military aid.
