Political tension in Bangladesh: Students demand resignation of President Mohammad Shahabuddin - 1

Political tension in Bangladesh has escalated following the call by the student movement "Student movement to fight discrimination" to President Mohamed Shahabuddin to resign. The reason for this was his comments that questioned the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in the capital, Dhaka, and others tried to storm the presidential palace. According to witnesses, security forces used batons and stun grenades to disperse the protesters, injuring at least two people.

This outburst of discontent came after Shahabuddin gave an interview to the Bengali-language newspaper Manab Zamin, in which he said he had not received the resignation letter of Hasina, who fled to India during the August student protests. The statement angered the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, which is demanding the president's resignation and Hasina's return to the country for trial.
