Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said after a meeting with Pope Francis that the Ukrainian conflict will end with negotiations.
„We need to reduce tensions in the Middle East and find a way to achieve a transition period in Ukraine. We will continue to support Ukraine, as we have said, and they will determine when it is time to sit down at the negotiating table. But, I've said it before, this conflict will end with negotiations at some point,”, Austin said during a call with reporters in Rome on the occasion of his conversation with the Pope on Ukraine and the Middle East.
Austin said the head of the Catholic Church is concerned about the humanitarian problems in these regions and shares the desire for a ceasefire.
