Israel today struck a key thoroughfare near the Lebanese capital Beirut. The strike hit a van full of ammunition. The driver of the vehicle was killed, AFP reported, citing a source in the Lebanese security services.
"In an Israeli strike on the road between Beirut and the Syrian capital Damascus, a van full of ammunition was hit. The driver was killed," the source said.
The official Lebanese news agency NNA reported that the road was closed to traffic after the impact.
Meanwhile, a military spokesman, quoted by "Reuters", wrote on the social network "X" that the Israeli military has issued an evacuation warning to residents of the town of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon.
The group "Hezbollah" announced that it had sent a squadron of drones against a military base near the city of Haifa in northern Israel.
A statement from the pro-Iranian group said the attack on the military base in the southern part of the city of Haifa was in response to the aggression and killings in Lebanon.
In just over a month, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of over 1,700 people.
