The number of confirmed victims of flooding in Spain has exceeded 200, the Associated Press reported, citing authorities, BTA reported.
Rescue services said today that at least 205 people had died. Almost all of them - 202 - died in the eastern autonomous region of Valencia. It is not clear how many people remain missing.
Rescuers continue to search for survivors and bodies in affected areas - three days after flash floods in eastern and southern Spain. As of last night, 158 people had been confirmed dead - 155 in Valencia, two in the neighboring autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha, and one in Andalusia, to the south.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia has received information from the relatives of four of the five Bulgarian citizens who could not be contacted that they are safe and unharmed.
The Spanish government announced earlier today that it would send another 500 soldiers to the Valencia region - 300 from the army, 100 from the air force and 100 from the navy, who will join the 1,200 soldiers already deployed on site, helping to deal with the consequences of the floods in the area, the Spanish agency EFE reported.
The new soldiers will help in the cities of Utiel, Requena, Ribarroja, Torrent, Payporta and Algemesi, said sources from the Ministry of Defense, who said the soldiers would be mainly involved in clearing roads and distributing essential aid, among other tasks.
