Disruption of GPS signals from North Korea near South Korea - 1

North Korea has cut off GPS signals for the fifth consecutive day around islands located near South Korea, AFP reported, citing information from the Ministry of Defense in Seoul. It is believed that these signal disturbances, which affect the western border islands, are related to North Korea's military exercises aimed at countering unmanned aircraft, as quoted by News.bg.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea had previously conducted similar GPS jamming in late May and early June in the Northwest Frontier Islands region. Then stronger signals were directed towards South Korea.

This week, however, the disturbances have been weaker, suggesting they may be part of ongoing military preparations by North Korea rather than a targeted provocation. However, Pyongyang's actions create difficulties for shipping and fishing in the region.
