The US State Department has confirmed that North Korean troops are engaged in fighting alongside the Russian army near the border with Ukraine. Press Secretary Vedant Patel said that more than 10,000 soldiers from the DPRK have been transferred from Eastern Russia to the western borders, and are already in the Kursk region and participating in combat operations alongside Russian forces, quoted by News.bg.
Just last week, the Ukrainian president confirmed the presence of North Korean forces in the Kursk region, as Ukraine and South Korea have repeatedly warned of increased military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. The involvement of North Korean troops in the conflict represents a new level of support for the Russian military.
The European Union defined this development as a definite escalation of the conflict.
A few days ago, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, General Alexander Sirsky, confirmed that Russia is concentrating significant forces, including tens of thousands of soldiers, to push Ukrainian troops out of the Kursk region.
