Judge Juan Murchan gave the president-elect's lawyers until December 2 to file an appeal to quash the proceedings and delay the sentencing, as they had requested.

Trump was convicted on May 30 in that case of "aggravated accounting falsification to cover up a conspiracy to tamper with the 2016 election.

On Tuesday, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office cleared the way for this new delay.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg had indicated in a court filing that he would oppose an outright dismissal of the proceedings, but that the matter merits a hearing that would prompt another delay in sentencing.

Agreeing with the defense lawyers, Alvin Bragg even admitted that the possibility of freezing the entire proceedings "until the end of the presidential term" of the 47th President of the United States.

Of the four criminal proceedings against Donald Trump, this is the only one in which there was a trial against the candidate in the presidential election, which he won on November 5 - a scenario that is unprecedented in American history, notes AFP.
