Russia opposes freeze on conflict in Ukraine, insists on long-term peace - 1

Russia opposes simply freezing the conflict in Ukraine, as Moscow needs a "solid and long-term peace" to address the root causes of the crisis. This was stated by the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia, Sergey Naryshkin, quoted by “Reuters” and News.bg.

Naryshkin pointed out that his country has the initiative on the battlefield and is categorically against “freezing the conflict”. He added that Russia wants to achieve long-term peace and is open to negotiations.

Last week it was reported that the leaders of Russia and the United States may agree to freeze military action in Ukraine. According to sources of the news agency, the parties may discuss a specific demarcation line and exchange of territories, including in the Kursk and Kharkiv regions.

Russia has repeatedly stated its determination to fulfill the goals of the special military operation, which include Ukraine's neutral status outside of NATO, ensuring the security of Russia's borders and Kiev's refusal to deploy foreign weapons on its territory.

In addition, Moscow maintains that it is necessary to accept the realities on the ground, such as the free will of the residents of Crimea, Sevastopol, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, to be part of Russia.< /p>
