Ukraine has announced its readiness to host a second global meeting of summit, aimed at ending the Russian invasion, said the head of the president's office Andriy Yermak, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.
In his words, the event will take place "in the nearest future" and will be based on an already prepared common peace framework developed with international partners.
Background of the initiative
The first "peace summit" was held in June in Switzerland, where more than 90 countries discussed the terms for ending the war proposed by Ukraine. Russia was not invited to the event and dismissed it as meaningless without its participation. Moscow has confirmed that it will not participate in the next meeting organized by Kiev.
Meanwhile, key global powers such as China, India, Saudi Arabia and Mexico stayed away from the June event, with some refusing to back the final communiqué. This underscores the difficulty for Ukraine to extend international support for its peace terms beyond Western allies.
Diplomatic situation and current challenges
The announcement of the second meeting comes amid ongoing Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine and strikes against the country's energy infrastructure. Kiev continues to rely on its European partners and the international community to strengthen its position against Russia.
At the same time, Ukraine and its allies are watching with concern how the newly elected US President Donald Trump will approach the war. He has criticized the scale of US military and financial support for Kiev and said he could end the conflict "in a day", without specifying how.
Expectations for the second summit
Kiev's goal is to create a widely supported international platform for peace that will strengthen Ukraine's position. However, the lack of participation from key global players such as Russia and China remains a serious diplomatic challenge for the successful holding of the meeting.
