The government of the Netherlands proposes that the kingdom agree to Bulgaria's accession to Schengen and overland, BNR reported.
The cabinet has submitted its proposal to the country's parliament, as required by national legislation. Deputies can put the matter to a vote, but even if they say "no", the government has the right not to comply with the vote. The other option is to have no discussion at all.
The Dutch parliament is due to discuss the issue early next week. At this stage, the expectation is that there will be no disagreement with the government's position. This will mean that the last obstacle to our land-based Schengen accession will also fall. The final decision must be taken on December 12 in Brussels at the Justice and Home Affairs Council.
