< p>Russia today blamed Ukraine for the recent escalation of the civil war in Syria, saying that Kiev is logistically supporting the rebel advance, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
„We emphasize the presence of a clear Ukrainian trace in the ranks of foreign fighters, including from the post-Soviet space”, said the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
She cited reports that Kiev's security services cooperated with “terrorists”, supplying them with drones and sharing experience in their use.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian news site “Kiev Post” (Kyiv Post) reported that Ukrainian military intelligence was involved in training Islamist rebels in Syria.
Syria is not the only country where Ukraine intervenes, Zakharova said. She stated that Kyiv was causing unrest in African countries.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for nearly three years. It is under intense pressure on its front line.
At the same time, Moscow has been a major political and military player on the African continent for years, DPA points out.
The notorious “Wagner” mercenary force, which was placed under the command of Russia's Ministry of Defense last year, has operated there for years.
In recent days, Syrian rebels have taken control of large parts of Syria, including Aleppo, the country's second largest city.
Zakharova confirmed that Moscow continues to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whom Russia kept in power in 2015. through his intervention.
The Russian Air Force said it is again carrying out intensive attacks on targets in Syria, including Aleppo.
