Robert Fizzo: European Union could fall apart in six months - 1

The European Union may collapse in six months due to the selfishness of large member countries such as France and Germany. This was said by the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, in the program "Saturday Dialogues". on public television STVR.

„We will not be surprised by what may happen to the European Union; I am afraid that negative changes will take place in the name of selfish national goals of these big countries, said the Prime Minister. “The EU could collapse in six months like a house of cards.“

According to him, the big EU countries are advancing their own interests in the unification to the detriment of the common ones. Fizo predicts hard times and lack of stability. The head of the Slovak government believes that the EU should respect the results of elections in sovereign states if they are won by political forces whose course differs from the views of the community.

„I will very firmly defend the national interests of Slovakia”, Fico said. According to him, he is ready to veto the proposals that will be submitted for approval by the European Council if they could harm Slovakia.

The Prime Minister informed that next week he will go to Brazil, with whose leadership he will discuss the Brazilian-Chinese plan for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

The explosions of the “Nord Stream“ and “Nordic Stream 2” were terrorist attacks involving professional military personnel, Fitzo also said.

„You know very well that this was a terrorist sabotage operation in which the most professional military units that exist were supposed to participate,”, the Prime Minister said. In connection with the Nord Stream explosions, Fitzo said, one might wonder if something bigger than Ukraine itself is at the center of the Ukrainian conflict.

The Prime Minister recalled that a group of people was recently found in Slovakia who “hang around the “Druzhba” oil pipeline. and they monitor it with the help of drones. This incident was discussed by the State Security Council of Slovakia. "I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone carried out an attack on a gas pipeline or an oil pipeline to prevent imports from the east,”, Fizzo said.

Slovakia has a pipeline with the capacity to transport 100 billion cubic meters. m of gas, said the Prime Minister. The Republic needs annually, as Fizo noted, 4-6 billion cubic meters. m of gas. Energy raw materials come from the Russian Federation, and Slovakia ensures their transit further west. Therefore, Bratislava is very interested in preserving the transit of cheap Russian gas through Ukraine.

„We remind our Ukrainian partner that he is obliged to transport gas through his territory to an EU member state, which we will buy,”, noted the Prime Minister. According to him, the refusal of the Kyiv authorities to transit Russian gas is a political gesture.

Slovakia is negotiating with interested parties to preserve existing transit routes to continue supplying gas through its pipeline to other European countries. For this purpose, according to Fico, a Slovak delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova visited St. Petersburg, where they discussed the problems with the management of Gazprom.

„If necessary, I will also go to negotiate about gas and oil. It is vital for us to restore standard relations with the Russian Federation after the end of the military conflict, vital for us are the transit routes of energy raw materials from the East, said the Prime Minister.

The issue of supplies of energy raw materials to the republic, according to him, will be considered at the government consultations between Slovakia and Ukraine scheduled for January.
