Russia will definitely respond to the latest Ukrainian strikes with American ATACMS missiles on Russian territory. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by "Reuters".
Moscow reported yesterday that Kiev had hit a military airfield in the Sea of Azov with six US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles, a move that could prompt Russia to launch another experimental medium-range hypersonic missile against Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry warned that "the attack with long-range Western weapons will not go unanswered and appropriate measures will be taken". However, it is not clear how exactly Russia will respond.
"I would like to recall the absolutely unequivocal and direct statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation made yesterday, where it was clearly stated that a response would follow," Peskov noted today.
"An answer will follow in a manner deemed appropriate. But it will definitely follow," the Kremlin spokesman assured.
Russia launched a new medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile, known as the Oreshnik, against Ukraine on November 21. President Vladimir Putin explained that the move was a direct response to strikes against Russia by Ukrainian forces with American and British missiles.
A US official yesterday indicated that Russia may launch a new hypersonic ballistic missile against Ukraine in the coming days. However, Washington does not think that the "Oreshnik" weapon will change the game of war.
