First-person account: Albena, who miraculously escaped the terror in Magdeburg  - 1

Bulgarian Albena Ninov miraculously escaped the car attack at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. The car drove into a crowd of people at high speed on Friday. What is known about the perpetrator is that he is from Saudi Arabia, 50 years old and is not known to the authorities as an Islamist.

„Yesterday the school holidays began, people's vacations. We were all at the Christmas market. We were lucky that we went to the toilet with the children. At that moment, my friend's husband called, told us not to go out and that they would come to get us. Within seconds, people with bloodied faces and tears started entering the mall. "Everything was surrounded by police, ambulances," Albena says.

She also says that the shock was great for everyone, since the city was calm.

The Christmas market is organized in front of the city hall. "Crowds of people who had gathered to celebrate. The mood was good. There was live music," Albena says.

When she leaves the mall, police cars and fire engines are already coming from all directions. Public transport has been stopped. Law enforcement is trying to evacuate people.
