Heavy snowfalls have caused disruptions in Croatia, blocking a key highway leading to the coast, the Croatian Automobile Association said today, quoted by the Croatian publication “Index“.
Ten more main roads in the country are blocked, while others are closed to the passage of large trucks, buses and caravans.
Seven major roads were closed in mountainous areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to snowstorms, the Bosnian Automobile Association reported, quoted by DPA.
Cars were blocked on the roads for more than 12 hours, Bosnian national television BHRT noted. A state of emergency has been declared in one municipality, and a natural disaster in six others. Some of Bosnia's railway lines are out of service.
Snowfall and strong winds have damaged the country's power grid. Tens of thousands of homes have been without power since Monday, and repairs to the electrical system are being hampered by the ongoing snowfall, strong winds and fallen trees, Bosnia's electricity company Elektroprivreda said.
