Survey predicts end of UK's two-party system - 1

A major poll by the "Sunday Times" newspaper shows that the next general election in the United Kingdom will end the traditional two-party system and a hung parliament is very likely, BNR reported.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer came to power in a landslide victory less than 6 months ago, but the next general election could herald the end of the traditional two-party system, according to an analysis by the think tank More in Common based on a survey commissioned by the "Sunday Times". This is the first significant analysis by seat since the general election and it predicts that if an election were held today, Labour would lose its majority and nearly 200 of the 411 seats it won in July. 87 of the seats lost will go to the Conservatives, 67 to Nigel Farage's "reformers" and 26 to the Scottish National Party.

Things are going particularly well for Farage's "Reform UK", with the party emerging as a serious third force that has never been so close to Labour and the Conservatives. The More in Common analysis suggests that Labour will win 228 seats, just 6 more than the Conservatives with 222 seats and the "reformers" with 72.

The Liberal Democrats will be pushed into fourth place with 58 seats.

Seven cabinet ministers will lose their seats, six of them because of unpopular reforms. To have a majority in the House of Commons, a political party must win more than half the seats - at least 326 out of a possible 650.
