At least 60 people have died in Ethiopia after an overcrowded bus fell into a river, Reuters reported, citing authorities in the southern Sidama region.
The tragedy took place in Bona district, the agency said, citing a statement from the local public relations office.
"The survivors are receiving medical care at Bona Central Hospital," the statement quoted by BTA said.
Ethiopian state television reported that the people on the bus were traveling to a wedding.
Road accidents are common in Ethiopia, where passenger safety rules are widely ignored and vehicles are poorly maintained, it notes Reuters.
The agency recalls that in 2018, 38 people died, most of them students, after a bus fell into a ravine.
