Zelensky's popularity in Ukraine has dropped significantly - 1

The majority of Ukrainians still support their President Volodymyr Zelensky nearly three years after Russia's full-scale invasion, although this support has decreased significantly in the past year, according to the results of a survey published today by a specialized institute in Kiev, reported Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.

The Kiev International Institute of Sociology conducted a telephone survey among 2,000 people living in the territory controlled by Ukraine between December 2 and 17 - about a month after Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election, which reignited speculation about possible peace talks with Moscow.

According to the results of the survey, at the end of 2024, 52 percent of Ukrainians surveyed said that they "trust" Volodymyr Zelensky - this indicator has fallen sharply since the end of 2023. (77 percent), reflecting the loss of support for the Ukrainian president after almost three years of high-intensity war.

Support for the Ukrainian leader, in office since 2019, is higher in western (60 percent) and central (52 percent) Ukrainian regions, relatively spared from the war, than in the east (only 42 percent) and south (46 percent), where most of the fighting is taking place.

According to the survey, almost 39 percent of Ukrainians now say they “do not trust” Volodymyr Zelensky, almost double the figure in December 2023 (22 percent). The Ukrainian president was elected in April 2019 on a promise to pursue peace with Russia. His rating then fell before rising to almost 90 percent after Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, AFP reported.
