US President-elect Donald Trump still has no idea how to end the war and has no intention of stopping the flow of US military aid to Ukraine, the British newspaper Financial Times writes, citing European officials.
The FT reported that two unnamed European officials who spoke to the publication said that the content of the conversations with Trump's team suggested that he had not yet decided exactly how to end the war and that US aid would continue to flow to Ukraine after he takes office on January 20.
"This whole team is obsessed with power and the need to appear strong, so "are re-adjusting their approach to Ukraine," one of the sources told the FT.
Donald Trump said this week that he hoped to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine within six months, despite campaigning saying he would definitely end the war within 24 hours of being elected president.
Trump's special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, told Fox News on Wednesday that his goal was to end the war within 100 days.
The newspaper recalled that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni assured journalists last week after meeting Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence that the US would not stop providing aid to Ukraine.
"I don't predict a US withdrawal. Trump will probably move towards a peaceful solution, but I don't think that means he will abandon Ukraine," Meloni said.
