The spokesman for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) said that the possibility of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan running again is on the agenda and a possible "formula" for this will be considered, Turkish media reported, quoted by BTA.

Ömer Çelik's statement was in response to a question after a meeting of the AKP's central executive committee.

"For those of us who walk the path together with our president, this is on our agenda. "We are considering a formula (how the candidacy will happen - ed.)" the spokesman said.

According to the Turkish constitution, Erdogan cannot run in the presidential elections, which are due to take place in 2028. However, the law allows an exception for a president who is in his second and final term if parliament calls early elections.

The AKP spokesman's statement was made in the context of the discussion that arose around an exchange of remarks between Erdogan and singer Ibrahim Tatlises, who has repeatedly suggested that he be included in the AKP party list as a candidate for parliament.

At a meeting of the AKP parliamentary group, Erdogan, who is also the party's leader, answered Ibrahim Tatlises' question about whether he would run for the presidency again, saying: "I will run if you run too", the newspaper reminds. "Yeni Şafak".

Following this dialogue, the question of whether President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will run again has become one of the most discussed topics in recent days.

"In politics, one day is very long and one year is very short. The important thing is that the will of our people is manifested in this direction. I hope that we will carry out these processes in the most favorable way," he said, quoted by the "Haberler" website.
