The US must control Greenland to ensure international security, US President Donald Trump said, quoted by Reuters.
Trump said this while signing executive orders in the Oval Office of the White House on the first day of his second term as president.
He has expressed interest in annexing Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, to the US since he was re-elected president last November.
Donald Trump has not ruled out using military or economic force to convince Denmark to cede Greenland.
Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede, who is a supporter of Greenlandic independence, said the island is not for sale and that its people will decide their own future.
