Turkish forces attacked PKK positions in northern Iraq - 1

Turkish security forces have "neutralized" 13 Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters in northern Iraq, Turkey's Ministry of National Defense announced on Sunday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The terrorists were attacked in the Hakurk, Gara and Metina regions, the ministry announced on the social network "Ex".

"Our Turkish armed forces will resolutely continue the operations until the last terrorist is neutralized", the statement also states.

The Turkish authorities use the term "neutralization" to mean that the terrorists in question have surrendered or been killed or captured, the Anadolu Agency specified.

The PKK has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1984 and is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU and the US. Tens of thousands have died in the conflict. PKK fighters have bases in northern Iraq and are active in northern Syria.

PKK terrorists often hide in northern Iraq to plan cross-border attacks against Turkey, the agency also noted.
