A grand scandal in France! The grave of Jean-Marie Le Pen was desecrated - 1

The grave of Jean-Marie Le Pen was desecrated, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

The historic leader of the French far-right died on January 7 at the age of 96 and was buried four days later in his hometown of Trinite-sur-Mer in Brittany, in the western part of the country.

Interior Minister Bruno Rétayo condemned the vandalism as a "complete downfall". "Respect for the dead is what distinguishes civilization from barbarism", he stressed on the social network "Ex".

Gilles Penel, a member of the European Parliament from the far-right "National Rally" party, confirmed that the grave of the historic leader of the French far right had been desecrated that night, "probably with hammers", and condemned this "disgusting, vile and base" act. "The headstone (of the grave) is cracked" and "the cross is broken", along with plaques in tribute to Jean-Marie Le Pen and his parents, Penel said.

There is no information yet on who may have committed the act of vandalism.

A provocative tribune obsessed with immigration and Jews, the founder of the "National Front" party, which later became the "National Rally", has been convicted several times for his remarks about World War II and homophobic insults, AFP notes.
