French President Emmanuel Macron will meet tonight with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky at the Elysee Palace to prepare tomorrow's summit in Paris of the countries of the "coalition of the willing" ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. This was announced today by the French presidency, quoted by AFP.
"The head of state will reiterate to President Zelensky that it will be an absolute priority for France to continue to provide military and financial assistance to Ukraine," the communiqué said.
The defense chiefs of Britain and France met yesterday in London to discuss security guarantees in the event of a ceasefire in Ukraine that could be provided by the "coalition of the willing" that Paris and London are trying to form, AFP notes.
The meeting was the third of its kind since British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron took action to form this coalition, the aim of which would be to deter Moscow from violating a possible ceasefire.
London and Paris took up this initiative after the government of US President Donald Trump began direct talks with Russia to establish at the end of the war in Ukraine.
