The US may reduce its tariffs on Chinese products if Beijing approves the sale of TikTok, which will allow the social network to continue operating in the United States. This was stated on Wednesday by US President Donald Trump to reporters at the White House.
„There are many ways to buy TikTok and we will find the one that is best for our country, I care about our country more than anything else. As far as TikTok is concerned, China has to play a role in that, maybe by approving the deal, and I think they will do that. Maybe I will give them a little bit of a tariff reduction or something like that to achieve that. You know, every item on the list of Chinese products costs more money than TikTok. So, to get China to do that, I would, for example, reduce tariffs,” the head of state noted.
He once again stated that he could extend the postponement of the blocking of the TikTok social network in the United States.
Trump signed an executive order after taking office, which was intended to postpone the blocking of the platform in the United States for at least 75 days (until April 5). At that time, he stated that the United States should have the right to half of TikTok, but did not explain exactly what he meant. Earlier, Trump said that he had “warm feelings” for the platform, since the votes of its young American users contributed to his victory in the November 2024 elections. The Chinese Embassy in Washington compared the situation with the possible ban of TikTok in the United States to robbery.
