Salary is not everything - Germans are ready to leave their jobs for a number of other reasons. See what they are.
It's not just the salary - the framework conditions are also essential for workers who are ready to leave if they are not satisfied, according to a recent study on the German labor market conducted by the company "Randstad".
It is clear from it that every third person has already changed their job because the salary was not enough for them. But financial reasons are not the only ones that make people leave. The study shows that resignations are also due to toxic entrepreneurial culture, lack of trust in management, and lack of flexibility.
Five main reasons for leaving a job
In the list of reasons for leaving a job, the first place continues to be held by too low a salary - it is a determining factor for a third of respondents.
In second place comes the "toxic entrepreneurial culture". 36 percent complain about poor management, mobbing and unrealistic expectations of the employer. The number of people who are dissatisfied with the atmosphere at the workplace has also increased - by 16 percent compared to 2024.
Exactly a third of respondents cite the inability to reconcile work and personal life as the reason for leaving. In fourth place is the lack of trust: 28 percent do not trust their management and that is why they leave. In fifth place are broken dreams - unfulfilled promises to improve working conditions.
Workers expect trust and respect
The five reasons mentioned show that intangible aspects play an increasingly important role. Salary certainly remains an important factor, but - not everything is money. The authors of the study draw attention to the fact that the toxicity of the working environment has an increasing impact on workers.
It is also noted that today's employers are faced with the question of how they can convince their staff not to leave not only through the material factor, but also through management based on values, as well as through the flexibility of the work model. Verena Mene from the company "Randstad" says that many today's employers underestimate the importance of trust and respect for their workers. If the values by which the management is guided do not correspond to these ideas, many are ready to quickly put an end to their employment relationship with their employer.
