Turkey has suspended the export of lemons

The measure was imposed in order to maintain the balance of prices in Turkish markets and prevent speculation

Turkey is temporarily suspending the export of lemons from today due to the cold weather affecting the regions of the country where citrus fruits are grown, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced, “Daily Sabah“ reported, BTA reported.

“As a result of studies conducted by the ministry in connection with the cold weather and frostbite of plants in the region of the cities of Adana, Mersin and Hatay, it was determined that it would be beneficial to take the necessary measures“, the ministry said in a statement, in which the institution announced the temporary suspension of the export of lemons.

The ministry emphasizes that the measure was imposed in order to maintain the balance of prices in Turkish markets and prevent speculation with the prices of the product. The ministry says it is monitoring the situation closely and is ready to introduce additional measures if necessary.

According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Turkey ranks fourth in the world in terms of lemon export growth, with the country exporting over 550,000 tons of lemons in 2021, generating over $180 million.
