Egg prices in Turkey have increased by 100 percent in the last four months, with the main reason for the increase being egg exports to the US, writes the website “Economim“, quoted by BTA.

In December 2024, a carton of 30 eggs cost between 100 and 120 Turkish liras (between 4.70 and 5.60 leva), and currently the average price for the same product is around 250 liras (around 11.75 leva), the website states. At the same time, the price of the highest grade of eggs exceeds 400 liras (18.80 leva).

Industry representatives say that there are no problems with egg production in the country, and according to them, the main reason for the price increase is the increase in exports.

Statistics show that Turkey produces over 20 billion eggs per year, and Turks consume an average of 220 eggs per year. At the same time, Turkey exports about 20 percent of its production, or about 4 billion eggs. Turkey's egg exports are mainly directed to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Oman and Syria, and due to cases of bird flu and the closure of many farms in the United States, the United States is becoming the main importer.

In 2024, Turkey exported a total of 74.4 million eggs to the United States. After signing a new deal in February, Turkey plans to export over 280 million eggs to the United States by the end of July 2025, which is expected to bring in over $26 million in revenue to the Turkish economy, according to “Economim“.
