A mini-tsunami was caused by the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that shook Istanbul and the districts in the Marmara Sea region earlier today, Turkish television Haberturk reported, quoted by BTA.

The earthquake caused a significant increase in wave height in the Bosphorus. The phenomenon was captured on camera, and the recording shows how the waves grow one after another in height and increase in intensity as they reach the shore, the television channel noted.

According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), the epicenter of today's earthquake was in the Marmara Sea, off the coast of the city of Silivri, Istanbul district. The earthquake occurred at 12:49 p.m. at a depth of 6.99 km. It was followed by numerous aftershocks, the strongest of which were of magnitude 4.4 and 4.9, Turkish media reported.

The earthquake caused severe panic among the population, but so far there is no information about any damage.
