SYDNEY, May 1. /TASS/. An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale was registered on the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea, the Australian Geological Survey reported.
The epicenter was located 95 km east of the administrative center of the province of West New Britain, the city of Kimbe, where about 30 thousand people live. The source was located at a depth of 88 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage. No tsunami threat was announced.
