"Viktor Orban's government lied to Hungarians with a promise of peace, but it turned out that it is ready to take our beautiful country to war," said Hungarian TISA party leader and MEP Peter Magyar, quoted by the Hungarian news agency MTI.
In a post on "Facebook" Magyar published an audio recording from April 2023, in which the voice of the defense minister is believed to be heard. It talks about the government's goal of creating a combat-ready Hungarian army.
"Victor Orban's government is a government of lies and war and must step down. In this recording, the Minister of Defense proudly declares that what the government has been preaching to him for years is just a stupid lie," said the TISA leader.
"Last year, the scandal with the controversial pardon by the former Hungarian president of a deputy director of a children's home clearly showed that Orbán and his government only protect families and children in words, while in fact they are the ones who support pedophiles. Now it turns out that while the government has been talking for years about protecting Hungarians, it is precisely they who would be ready to sacrifice the security of Hungarians for money and power. This is not a political mistake. This is a crime. A crime for which there will never be a pardon," he added.
In the recording, the Minister speaks about the government's decision to create a strong and combat-ready Hungarian army. "This means that we are interrupting our peaceful activities. We know what they are, but we are essentially breaking with the peace agenda through action. Of course, action, publicly known as renewal, is simply the easiest way to change that - to break with the peace mentality and move to the path of war.
