The EU plans to impose sanctions on the "Nord Stream" gas pipeline to dissuade potential future investors in the project, a European Commission spokesman said today at a press conference in response to questions related to the absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin from the talks in Turkey on peace in Ukraine, BTA reported.
The pipeline is not working anyway, but imposing such sanctions will turn away investors, the spokesman explained. The EU has joined its international partners in proposing a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed readiness for an immediate meeting in Turkey for peace talks.
