China is concerned about the US project to build the "Golden Dome" missile defense shield and has called on Washington to abandon its development and deployment. This was stated by a spokesman for the State Department, quoted by "Reuters".
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he had selected an architectural project and appointed a general from the Space Force to head the ambitious program aimed at blocking threats from China and Russia.
The budget package that Republicans are currently discussing will include an initial $25 billion to start construction.
The total cost of the project is now estimated at about $175 billion, but it could grow much more. Congress has not yet funded any of the project.
A month ago, it was reported that 180 companies had expressed interest in the "Golden Dome". US billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX and two partner companies led the race for a key part of the missile defense shield.
In his executive order on January 27, Trump cited a possible missile attack as "the most catastrophic threat facing the United States".
