There is no basis for the assessment that Russia is winning the war in Ukraine, a spokesman for the European Commission said today at a press conference in response to questions related to the conversation between US President Donald Trump and European leaders earlier this week, BTA reported.
According to various world and European media, Trump said after a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia is not ready to end the war because it feels it is winning it.
We see that the economic situation in Russia is deteriorating and it relies on the military support of North Korea. Moscow wants to get rid of the sanctions and this shows that they are working. We are working on preparing the next sanctions. They seem to be the only language that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin understands, the spokesman added.
He said the next European sanctions would likely affect the "Nord Stream" gas pipeline and the oil price cap. He said the EU could be expected to propose that the G7 countries join in implementing an oil price cap.
