Greenland is not for the taking, neither Antarctica nor the high seas are for sale. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron during his opening speech at a UN conference on the protection of the oceans, which is being held in Nice, "Politico" reported.
The statement comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's intention to buy Greenland, as well as Macron's upcoming visit on June 15, when he will meet with the head of the local government, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. After that, Macron will head to Canada for the G-7 summit.
During his speech, the French president also defended multilateralism. "To win the battle for the oceans, we must revive multilateralism," he said.
Emmanuel Macron criticized climate skepticism, pointing out that climate and biodiversity are not a matter of opinion, but a scientifically established fact.
