Ukraine: Putin's goal in Kiev attack is very simple: to make G7 leaders look weak - 1

The deadly Russian airstrike on Kiev during the Group of Seven (G7) summit of major economies in Canada is a signal of disrespect to the US and other partners who have called for an end to the war, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

"(Russian President) Vladimir Putin's goal is very simple: to make G7 leaders look weak. Only decisive steps and real pressure on Moscow can prove him wrong," Sibiga wrote in "Ex".

"I receive regular reports from the Minister of Internal Affairs (Igor) Klimenko and our military commanders on the consequences of Russia's massive strike. More than 440 drones and 32 missiles were used. Kiev faced one of the most shocking attacks. Also, Odessa, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions were attacked at night," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in "Telegram", quoted by Ukrinform. "We are in contact with all partners at all possible levels to ensure an appropriate response. "It is the terrorists who should feel the pain, not the innocent civilians," he added.

Earlier today, Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said at least 14 people had been killed in a Russian attack on Kiev overnight. The attack in the Ukrainian capital left 60 people injured. Damage was caused to residential buildings, educational institutions and critical infrastructure, Klymenko wrote on Telegram. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said one US citizen had died in the attack. The American was killed by shrapnel, Klimenko later said, as quoted by the Associated Press.

At least five residents of an apartment building in Kiev destroyed in the Russian attack are missing, Klimenko said, adding that emergency crews had rescued one person from the rubble.

"Search and rescue operations are continuing. We have received information about at least five residents who are missing. They are not responding to attempts to contact their relatives. Rescue crews will continue to clear the debris until we are sure that everyone is safe and receiving the necessary assistance," the interior minister added.

A woman died in Odessa and 17 people were injured as a result of the morning drone attack, the head of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleg Kiper, said on "Telegram". The Russian attack injured 17 people, including a pregnant woman and a 17-year-old girl, the statement said. Residential buildings in the historic center of Odessa, a kindergarten and an integration center were destroyed, he added.

One person was injured each in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, Ukrinform reported.
