Official! Istanbul Prosecutor's Office Requests Up to 8 Years and 9 Months in Prison for Ekrem Imamoglu on Charges of Fo - 1

Istanbul Prosecutor's Office has requested up to 8 years and 9 months in prison for the temporarily suspended mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, on charges of forging a forged diploma, reported Turkish state television “TRT Haber“, quoted by BTA.

The investigation has already been completed, and the request has been recorded in the indictment. According to the document, the prosecution requested a prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months to 8 years and 9 months for İmamoğlu for forging an official document.

The indictment has already been submitted to the Criminal Court.

Istanbul University revoked Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma on March 18, 2025.

The reason was that Ekrem İmamoğlu's transfer to Istanbul University from another university in Northern Cyprus was not carried out in accordance with the decisions of the Higher Education Council under the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul University.

The annulment of the diploma and the other charges against İmamoğlu could effectively remove him from the presidential race for the 2028 elections. If İmamoğlu is convicted on any of the charges, he will not be allowed to carry out political activities.
