Germany is in intensive talks to acquire Patriot air defense systems to transfer to Ukraine after the United States froze some deliveries of critical weapons, a German government spokesman said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
“There are different ways to fill this “Patriot“ gap“, the spokesman said, adding that one of the options being considered is to buy “Patriot“ systems by the US and then handed over to Ukraine.
“I can confirm that there are indeed intensive discussions on this issue“, he said.
The spokesman also said that Germany expects Slovakia to approve the EU sanctions package against Russia soon, as Bratislava's concerns have been taken into account.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, meanwhile, called on US President Donald Trump to resume deliveries of air defence ammunition to Ukraine after the Polish embassy in Kiev was damaged in a Russian attack.
“Putin is mocking your peace efforts“, Sikorski wrote in his address to Trump, published in “Ex“.
