US President Donald Trump told reporters today at the start of an official dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he would be happy to lift tough US sanctions on Iran at the right time, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The US president said the recent lifting of sanctions on Syria would help the country move forward and expressed hope that the same could be done with regard to Iran.
“I would be very happy to be able to lift these sanctions at the right time, to give them a chance to recover, because I want to see Iran recover peacefully and not keep saying: “Death to America!“, Death to Israel!“, like they do there,“, pointed out Trump.
He said he had scheduled talks with Iran and expressed hope that he would not have to bomb it again.
Trump said he was convinced that “Hamas“ was ready to accept a ceasefire in Gaza, according to Agence France-Presse.
“They want a meeting and they want this ceasefire“, Trump said before dinner with Netanyahu.
Asked what he thought about the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Trump left the answer to that question for Netanyahu.
Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, who was also at the dinner, said he saw a possibility of a peace agreement for Gaza and that talks with Iran could resume as early as next week.
Trump also said the United States would send more weapons to Ukraine.
According to Ukraine is being attacked very brutally by Russia and must be able to defend itself. The US will send Kiev mostly “defensive” weapons, Trump said.
