Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS that a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is being developed in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of the ASEAN events.
“I confirm: such a meeting is being developed“, the diplomat said.
Lavrov had earlier arrived in the Malaysian capital for a two-day visit.
Rubio is expected to hold talks with the Russian Foreign Minister on July 10, according to the Secretary of State's schedule of meetings in Kuala Lumpur, released by the US State Department press service.
Lavrov is expected to participate in meetings at the level of foreign ministers in three formats: Russia-ASEAN, the Summit of East Asia (EAS) and ASEAN Regional Security Forum (ARF). The Minister will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with Asian counterparts.
