Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will make a "historic statement" on Saturday, the spokesman for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Ömer Çelik told the Turkish private television NTV, BTA reports.
The speaker did not specifically mention the topic of Erdogan's statement, but invited people to listen to his speech on Saturday morning.
The Turkish President's upcoming "historic statement" was mentioned by Çelik while talking about Turkey's efforts to fight terrorism and the upcoming AKP camp in Kızılcahamam near Ankara. According to media speculation, the efforts against terrorism and the peace process with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) will be the focus of Erdogan's address to the Turkish public.
According to the ruling party spokesman, the goal of a "Turkey without terrorism" is a "state project of the Republic of Turkey". In this context, he highlighted the "exceptional public trust" enjoyed by President Erdogan, as well as his ally, the nationalist leader Devlet Bahçeli. According to the AKP spokesman, however, "some networks and intelligence organizations are undertaking and will undertake certain activities against Turkey in order to undermine the "Turkey without terrorism" process.
"Our institutions are fighting against them," said Çelik.
The AKP spokesman also reminded NTV of the party camp this weekend in Kızılcahamam.
"We have a camp on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday morning, our president will deliver a historic speech. I invite all our citizens to listen to our president's statement on Saturday morning," he said.
