The United States has officially classified the group “Resistance Front“ (RF) as a terrorist organisation. India accuses this group of the deadly attack in the Indian part of Kashmir in April, which led to a sharp military escalation between New Delhi and Pakistan. The news was reported by leading world agencies, BTA reports.
A statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the RF is nothing more than a “proxy“ organisation of the Pakistan-based jihadist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, accused of terrorist attacks in India, including the bloody attack in Mumbai in 2008, which killed 166 people.
The attack by the “Resistance Front“ in April left 26 people dead. According to information, the three perpetrators deliberately targeted Hindus, killing all those who could not perform the Muslim prayer.
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar welcomed the US decision. In a post on the social platform X, he described the act as a “strong confirmation of anti-terror cooperation“ between the two countries.
Following the armed clash between India and Pakistan, New Delhi launched a diplomatic offensive, sending parliamentary delegations to key capitals, including Washington, to present India's position on the conflict.
“India has consistently stressed the need for global cooperation in the fight against terrorism,“ the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.
For its part, the Secretary of State of the United States Marco Rubio stressed that the decision demonstrates the US administration's commitment to protecting national security and opposing terrorism internationally.
