The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has warned of a tsunami threat off the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East after two strong earthquakes, the larger with a magnitude of 7.4, were recorded this morning in the Pacific Ocean nearby, the Associated Press reported.

The stronger quake was at a depth of 20 kilometers, and the epicenter was located 144 kilometers east of the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, whose population is about 180,000 people.

A few minutes earlier, the first earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 was recorded near the eastern coast of Kamchatka, the German Research Center for Geosciences reported, Reuters reported.

The epicenter of the first earthquake was at a depth of about 10 km.

There are no reports of casualties or damage so far.
