Pope Leo XIV called on Sunday, in his Angelus prayer, delivered at his residence in the Italian town of Castel Gandolfo, for an end to the "barbarity of war", Reuters reported, BTA reported.
He spoke of the "deep pain" caused by the attack on the Catholic church in the Gaza Strip on July 17.
Three people were killed and several others, including the priest at the "Holy Family" church, were injured in the Israeli strike.
In his prayer, Pope Leo XIV named the dead.
"I call on the international community to respect humanitarian law and to honor its duty to protect civilians, and to prevent collective punishment and indiscriminate use of force and forced displacement of the population, he said.
