Cambodia called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the border conflict with Thailand last night at the UN amid escalating violence, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
"Cambodia has requested an immediate ceasefire - without conditions - and we call for a peaceful resolution to the dispute," said Cambodia's permanent representative to the UN, Keo Chea, after a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, USA.
The Cambodian representative rejected Thailand's accusations that his country attacked first, pointing out that the size of the Cambodian army is only one-third that of the Thai armed forces. He added that Cambodia's air force is also not fully equipped.
The UN Security Council, in turn, called on the two Asian countries to show utmost restraint during its closed-door meeting.
