The European Union must open its markets to American exports if it wants to avoid the introduction of 30% tariffs planned by US President Donald Trump from August 1. This was stated by US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in an interview with “Fox News Sunday“, emphasizing that Brussels is clearly seeking a deal, BTA reports.
“The question is whether they will offer President Trump a good enough deal to make it worthwhile for him to step back from the tariffs already announced“, Lutnick commented.
According to him, Trump's goal is to provide broader access for American companies to European markets. However, the final decision will be made by the president, who has previously said that the chances of reaching an agreement with the EU are “50 to 50“.
