Russian troops are increasing pressure on the front line between Konstantinovka and Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, trying to put the strategically important city of Pokrovsk in semi-encirclement. This was announced by the spokesman for the Ukrainian operational-strategic group “Khortitsa“ Viktor Tregubov on the air of “Suspilne”, BTA reports.
According to Tregubov, Russian forces have achieved a partial wedge into Ukrainian positions and are seeking to widen the breach in order to bypass the eastern defenses of the city, avoiding direct street fighting.
“There is a certain advance on their part, a partial penetration between Pokrovsk and Konstantinovka. They are seeking to develop this, while our troops are trying to destroy as much manpower and equipment as possible, slow down the offensive and repel them“, Tregubov said, quoted by “Ukrainskaya Pravda“.
He stressed that the Russian command is clearly avoiding a frontal assault, preferring tactics of encirclement and pressure on the flanks.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces continue to strengthen their defensive positions in the area and are conducting active actions to contain the offensive. The situation remains tense and dynamic.
We recall that on July 23, intense fighting was reported between Ukrainian units and Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups on the southwestern outskirts of Pokrovsk. According to information from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the front line is now so close to the city that not only DRGs, but also assault units of the Russian army are penetrating it.
