Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Monday that Western demands regarding the country's nuclear program were just a pretext for confrontation with the Islamic Republic, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
His statement came a day after US President Donald Trump warned of possible new strikes if Iran resumed the active phase of its nuclear program.
„The nuclear program, enrichment, human rights, these are just pretexts. "Their real target is our religion and our knowledge," Khamenei said.
The agency notes that tensions between Iran and the United States remain high, especially amid repeated warnings from Washington of possible action against Tehran if the latter deviates from the agreed restrictions on the nuclear deal.
